Dave Treadway, 1984-2019️

April 19, 2019: Dave Treadway, an incredible skier and a monumental human, has passed away after an accident near Rhododendron Mountain, Pemberton. He fell in a crevasse on a glacier and died from the trauma. (Some outlets are reporting that he died in an avalanche, which isn't true).

We are sending lots of love to his wife, Tessa, and their three sons, Kasper, Raffi, and a new baby (due in July).

When is the Funeral?
Update: Location has changed from Pemberton to the Whistler Fairmont, Macdonald Ball Room. Monday April 22, 2019 at 2PM.

How to help:
Tessa and the kids need our support. You can help by donating to this GoFundMe.

Hi Everyone, I thought I’d post a quick update.

The last time I posted we were on our way to Pemberton for Dave’s Celebration of Life service. It was an incredible gathering of amazing souls and the venue was packed. Here’s a link to the service if you wanted to watch it: https://youtu.be/g5VXeAWk3uc
Dave clearly had a huge impact on many people.

Tessa and her boys have now returned to their house in Golden BC. On May 17, there is a gathering where we will have a fire by the river and say a few words. Here’s a link to the FB Event page:https://www.facebook.com/events/2266239173639274/

There have been a lot of inquiries about how Tessa and the boys are doing: My answer is that they are doing about as well as you possibly could, based on the circumstances. Yes it’s still incredibly hard that Dave is gone. It’s been nearly a month and the new normal is starting to set in. There’s been a lot of support from many people and that outpouring has been amazing to see. Tessa remains an incredibly strong person and her faith gives her the hope she needs to face the days ahead.

GoFundMe Donations: Tessa is incredibly grateful for the donations that have been made. It would impossible for her to reach out to everyone at this time but please know that she is very thankful. Withdrawals for what has been raised has been set up for her. You can still donate. We plan to keep this fundraiser going as long as we can.

DirtBike: An amazing crew of people made a new dirtbike happen for Kasper and it’s been very cool to see people come together. KT is very stoked and very thankful for this new toy of his. I posted a pic of him jumping on his first day with it. We still need to get KT new boots and a neck brace right away. If you felt led to make that happen, you can donate to KT’s account at Mountain Motorsports in Golden BC. (250) 344-6100

Food: Here is an update from Tori about meals and gift cards. -We are still receiving gift cards for Save On Foods! Please have them sent to PO Box 483, Golden BC V0A 1H0 (not to the Save On Foods in Golden. Do not have your gifts cards transferred. Please purchase and then send via mail). If you have previously purchased a gift card and had it transferred to the Save On Foods in Golden please contact Tori Martinsen at thamre2@gmail.com to ensure your gift card has come through and will be received by Tessa.

Movie project: There’s efforts underway to make see that a movie about Dave and his family and their faith get’s made. More on that later…

Thank you once again for supporting these amazing people - Tim Grey

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from a special evening out at Tessa and Dave’s house in Golden. Tessa and the boys have been surrounded by close family and friends 24/7. She is doing great but is also feeling the weight of the coming week.

It’s been a day of decisions and getting prepared to host a large event, which is often daunting in a time of sorrow.

The most important logistical update is that the celebration of life service has been moved from Pemberton to the Whistler Fairmont. The time is still the same. So it’s 2pm at the Macdonald Ball Room at the Whistler Fairmont. This venue will hold more people, but the reality is that it probably won’t hold us all. There is a large lobby and it’s possible there’s a live stream going to happen but it’s not yet solved.

Are you a live stream specialist for an event like this? Please reach out to me if you feel like helping out.

The Golden family will be traveling to join the Pemberton family tomorrow; please keep that move in your prayers.

The outpouring from the community has been incredible but it’s also overwhelming to think about how to run an event where everyone gets a good experience. Tessa for sure is motivated to speak. She knows what she wants to say and she wants everyone to hear it. I just hope this can happen.

Monday is going to be an incredible collision of amazing souls. The impact that Dave and Tessa have had on so many people is so amazing and the outpouring is unreal.

There will be an afterparty at the GLC with an open mic. There will be no hard bar but beer and wine will be available for purchase. Tessa’s only hope with this entire event is that people don’t get loser drunk. Let’s keep it classy.

Please keep sharing the gofundme link if you can. My goal was always to hit $250K even if I was afraid to express it. I feel that’s attainable now.

Thank you. I know the Tessa the whole family are incredibly thankful for all the donations and messages of support. Tessa’s single Instagram post has over 1200 comments today and in time, she will go through them. It’s an important record of all that has transpired and how people are affected. Keep the outpouring happening. We love to see it.

Please keep Tessa in your prayers this week. It’s going to require an incredible about of poise and energy on her part to roll this trip to the coast. The circumstances remain incredibly heavy.

Here’s an update from Tori on Meals:

In addition to the meal train (which still has lots of available spots; https://mealtrain.com/e97zm1 ) we are also asking to have Save On Foods gift cards purchased for Tessa for future groceries and future necessities with the arrival of baby #3. This also gives people from out of town a great opportunity to bless the Treadway’s in a practical way without having to be in Golden.

If you are interested in sending a gift card you can do so by:

1. Go to your local Save On Foods. At customer service purchase a gift card of whatever amount you like and ask for that gift card to be transferred to the Golden Save On Foods. The gift card balance will be transferred to Golden and we will be able to pick it up and get it to Tessa. Please mention that the gift card is for Tessa Treadway.

2. You could also purchase a gift card and have it mailed to PO Box 483, Golden, B.C V0A 1H0. It will then be delivered to Tessa.

3. If neither of these options works for you but you would still like to send a gift card or gift of other sorts please contact Tori Martinsen over email (thamre2@gmail.com), phone (604-817-0543) or on Facebook Messenger to organize.

Dirt Bike:
Seems like there’s a rad set of dudes who are going to make this happen for Kasper. Looks like things are under control on this front, but I have also noticed that his boots are getting a little tight. Getting him in to a size 1 pair boots will probably be in the near future.

Much love to all.

Signed,

Tim

Hi everyone, I thought I’d try to put together an update with some FAQ’s I’ve been fielding.

How is Tessa?

Tessa is an amazing person. She’s mostly calm, caring of others (as usual) and as level headed as I’ve seen her, considering the circumstances. Tessa lost her mom to cancer less than 3 years ago and she’s used that experience while dealing with Dave’s passing. She continues to be strong for the boys and others.

When is the Funeral?

A celebration of life for Dave will be held at Pemberton Secondary School this coming Monday, April 22, 2019, at 2PM.

Is there a Golden Service?

Yes, there will be an outdoor bonfire event. We do not have a date yet. It will be likely in May and yes, we will need some help to make it happen.

Can I help with anything?

Yes, there are some things you can do:

1. Meals.

It would be great to bless Tessa and family with some meals. Here’s a link to the meal train app. Please sign up.

https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/e97zm1

Dan Bracko in Golden BC has volunteered some freezer space, so if you want to drop off a frozen meal, please coordinate with him (250-344-1511). Imagine our community providing meals to this family every day for a year….

2. Go Fund Me.

The support on the gofundme page has been amazing. But if you really look at how much life is going to cost this family then you realize that we’re about halfway to what will eventually be needed. I would encourage you to continue to share the link if you can. It seems that a lot of news sites mentioning Dave have not included the link. There’s been a suggestion that adding the link in the comments section of these stories can help.

It would be great to see the ski media, brands, resorts and companies who have worked with and benefited from the Treadways to use their huge social media presences to promote this link. Perhaps you work for one of these companies or know someone who does? I think if we can keep the link alive it will make a huge difference.

Did Dave have life insurance?

No. In this case, there is no insurance money coming from any direction.

Did Dave die in an avalanche?

No, Dave didn’t die in an avalanche, rather he fell in a crevasse on a glacier and died from trauma. This is an important distinction to Tessa.

3 kids.

I noticed a lot of news reports that mentioned Dave had 2 kids. Actually, Dave has 3 children. Kasper, Raffi and the baby boy in Tessa’s belly. Tessa is due on July 4

Thank You.

All the donations, prayers and support have been amazing. The family is incredibly grateful for all that everyone has done. It’s going to be a long haul for this family and they know it. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

Signed,
Tim Grey

Last winter I committed to living, traveling and skiing with my family.  Every day I was out in the mountains, we were together.

As skiers, we’re selfish and chase after ‘our’ powder day or ski line.  It wasn’t until April 21 and 22 that I ditched my family, “got selfish” and had some fun with the boys camping out in the mountains.  Safe to say that only 2 days was ample for my Adrenalin fix for the year.
